PLUNGE with us on Febuary 4th, 2012 at 11am and help support people in need...

What's PlungeFest?

You may have heard about it on the radio, read about it online, or maybe even seen a video on YouTube, but what exactly is this "Plungefest" that everyone's talking about?

Be a part of THE event of winter and join us for the 1st ever Athens Rotary PlungeFest, where participants take a quick dip in Lake Chapman at Sandy Creek Park to raise funds for local charities. Presented by the Athens Rotary, Plungefest benefits 3 charities: the Red Cross of East Georgia, The Foodbank of Northeast Georgia, and ShelterBox.  It is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses to support local charities by jumping into Sandy Creek’s frigid water on February 4th 2012. Show up at 11am and warm up by the fire and get ready to jump into the water at 11:45.  The concept is simple: For a $25 registration fee and a promise to raise a minimum of $100, participants PLUNGE into Lake Chapman on February 4th 2012, no matter how cold it is. But the Plungefest is much more than that. It’s the kind of fun and exciting events that you really have to experience to understand.

So grab a friend, coworker, family member or go at it alone — register today and you'll have bragging rights for years to come. Not just anyone can say they jumped into Lake Chapman in the dead of winter, right?

Three ways to plunge...
For you hardy souls, jump all in!  for those of you more sensible people, take the Chicken dip.  Just stick your toe in, then head for the fire and s'mores (also for people under 18 years old).

And for group plungers, or groups that want to raise money in support of a single plunger, you can register as a Team. Just click "Register to Participate," sign up, and build your personalized or Team webpage.

Why plunge.....

The poverty rate in Clarke County based on 2010 US Census data is 36.3%.  That is more than double the average poverty rate in Georgia of 16%, and the national average poverty rate of 15%.

Plunge now, and help Rotary support the Foodbank of Northeast Georgia, the Red Cross of East Georgia, and ShelterBox.

These charties keep people fed and sheltered everyday and when disaster strikes.

The Red Cross is on the scene supporting families in need throughout East Georgia.

ShelterBox is known for its rapid response to disasters, and the green ShelterBoxes are a symbol of disaster relief.
